Getting to Know Mike at SMM

As a sports therapist, Mike has worked in professional sports for over 20 years, including ironman, running, tennis, boxing, football, American football, MMA and motorcycle endurance.

With 2 BSc. Hons degrees and 15 diplomas in sports related and complementary therapies, he has a large toolbox he can bring to use in the treatment room...a true holistic therapist!

His 'Mission Statement' is a simple one:

When there is a cycle of events that create a physical problem, without change to break that cycle, the problem comes back time after time.

His core belief is that 10% of the work happens on the physio table and in the gym, 90% comes from the changes the patient makes from the advice Mike gives. The patient must be as involved in his rehabilitation as the therapist.

Mike has worked mainly in professional sports, recently at MTK in Puerto Banus, Spain with professional and amateur boxing and MMA.

Whether you're a professional or amateur athlete, a fitness fanatic, a weekend golfer, or just suffer from pain or lack of mobility, we can help.

Before you are treated you undergo an assessment where we look at past medical history and 'lifestyle' (e.g. do you sit in front of a computer all day) as well as a full postural assessment, so we can ascertain and create an individual treatment designed to your needs.

As well as altering the mechanics of your body on the physio table, 'homecare advice' allows you to carry on the process away from the clinic, breaking the 'cycle of events' that has caused the problem.

On each subsequent treatment, we look at your progress so we can alter the treatment to give maximum progress.

Our goal is to release pain and physical issues, not just till the next session, but for good.

What You Can Expect

Fitness and Health

As a athlete or if you train regularly at a gym of crossfit box, there's nothing worse than an injury that can stop you training for up to 6 weeks or more, You can lose muscle tone and fitness which is hard to get back. Most musculo-skeletal injuries come from insufficient warm-up, warm-down and stretching. Forced muscular stretching of tight muscles raises the risk of injury up to 300%. Even good warm-up and stretching will not release deep muscular tension. What if it was possible to reduce the risk of injury? Well...actually it is! Regular sports treatments will reduce the risk of injury significantly. You will be able to train with next to no risk of injury from muscle-skeletal muscle tension.

Regular sports treatments can also improve performance!

When there is muscular tension, not only does that muscle now act like an elastic band, but you now need to use other muscles to create the same movements. This is less efficient and will cost greater use of energy, reduce stamina and power. Reducing the strength needed for power will increase control while reducing cost. It can be the difference between winning and losing. I've even been able to increase golf driver distance by 10 yards just by sports treatments!
